ABOUT COACH MATT
Esteemed Rugby Coach and Guest Speaker
Following a successful playing career, for the Leopards, Bulls and Scotland, Matt’s first coaching stint came as head coach of Northwest University (Pukke). Matt’s first coaching job in professional rugby came as forwards coach for Western Province/Stormers where he helped the sides to 2 Currie Cup’s and Super Rugby Final during his time there. He then spent a year in Japan with the Kobelco Steelers in the Japanese Top League. In 2016 Matt moved to an assistant coach role with the Springboks, and helped coach and create the most feared forward pack in world rugby. His technical expertise and coaching proficiency at the set-piece culminated in South Africa dismantling the English scrum in the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final to become world champions. In 2020, he moved to England to become forwards coach for the national team. He helped the team to a 2020 Six Nations win. After he departed from England Rugby in January 2023, Matt joined Stellenbosch University (Maties) to take charge of their Varsity Cup side and was assistant coach to Namibia in 2023 World Cup.
Matt is currently Head Coach of the Northwest Leopards and is still available for ad-hoc coaching endeavors as his schedule allows it.

Matt Proudfoot, also known as Coach Matt -
is passionate about
sharing his expertise on game fundamentals,
set-piece, forwards position-specific skills,
attack- and defensive systems fundamentals,
to name a few.
Coaching clinics can consist of 45-minute;
1/2 day or full day sessions.
